About Flourish Acupuncture in Banstead
Why chose Flourish Acupuncture in Banstead?
Flourish Acupuncture is a friendly and professional local acupuncturist based in Banstead, Surrey. The heart of our clinic in Banstead is you. This is why I spend the time to get to know you and which aspect of your health you want to improve. I’m often told this is a refreshing change. Your whole experience at Flourish Acupuncture is geared towards ensuring you achieve the best from your treatment, and from the moment you book your first treatment you can rest assured you’re in safe hands.
It goes without saying I’m committed to safe practice, cleanliness, and rigor. I’m a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAaC), the professional governing body of acupuncture in the UK. I also have a commitment to ongoing professional development over and above that required by the BAaC.
I feel it’s important you’re treated by people who are passionate about what they do and also practice what they preach. I’m a regular recipient of acupuncture and have my own story to tell about how it’s helped me. I’m also a practitioner of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, yoga, and have a strong interest in healthy eating and how new research into the gut biome can help improve your health.
About Dom Walsh
Working with people has always been the most fulfilling part of my work, and acupuncture and Chinese Medicine has allowed me to have a guiding influence on arguably the most important aspect of peoples’ lives – their health. To see the positive changes acupuncture can enable in people is simply amazing.
Foundational studies
My early studies (BSc Hons degree in Pharmacology with Physiology & Biochemistry) provided the foundation to understand the human body from a Western medical perspective. My interests were in the neuroscience, being fascinated at how levels of neurotransmitters could affect the personality. This interest was later revisited in my acupuncture study where I researched whether acupuncture could be affective for treating schizophrenia.
Movement
I’ve studied numerous martial arts for both fun and health. I’ve been involved teaching Tai Chi and Qi Gong at the Mei Quan Academy in London. At one point I even taught Nigel Planner (Neil from the Young Ones) the Tai Chi Short Form. I bring into my clinical practice my experience around how to strengthen, relax, and heal the body through movement.
Acupuncture qualifications
A successful career in technology followed my earlier studies. However, I realised I needed to make a change. I wanted to find a career that was more worthwhile, continually challenging, and allowed me to give something back. That’s where Chinese Medicine and acupuncture came in!
I graduated from the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) with a Professional Licentiate in Acupuncture with a First-Class degree classification. I’m a member of the British Acupuncture Council, the leaing governing body that ensures safe practice in the UK. I’ve also completed further training in Tuina massage, moxibustion, and auricular (ear) acupuncture. I continue to deepen my knowledge with further continuous personal development (CPD) training.
Diet and the gut biome
My current interests are in diet, the gut microbiome, and the part they play in our health. I’m currently exploring how using the Zoe app, developed by Tim Spector and his team at Kings College London, can help improve diet and overall wellbeing.
Making a difference
The ongoing thread throughout my story has always been people. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine mean I can make a difference to peoples’ lives in a much more profound way than I have ever been able to before.
